Students packed into the new student center last Monday as Blackfoot High School hosted its annual weight lifting competition. The event brought together athletes from the high school, all competing to be the strongest there. From the first squat press attempt to the final deadlift of the night, the atmosphere was loud, supportive, and filled with school pride. Coaches and classmates cheered loudly as their students/friends pushed themselves to hit new personal records.
One standout moment came when Nicolas Gualdron Galvis, a foreign exchange student at Blackfoot, stepped up for their third attempt on deadlift. After successfully completing a lift of 374 pounds, they reflected on the experience, saying, “Hitting a weight that few people can lift, it was exciting to know that I had just done that.” Their performance showed how determination and a good coach can lead you to do incredible things. Head coach Geoffrey Roberts gave his input and said, “The students competed tremendously. It takes lots of courage to step up, lifting weight they’re incredibly uncomfortable doing with all of their peers watching, so hats off to everyone competing. The community outreach was good, and our mission was accomplished.”
As the crowd filtered out of the gym, it was clear that the event showcased not only physical power, but also the determination that defines the spirit of the Blackfoot Broncos. This competition was an incredible event to attend with its lively crowd and the mentally and physically strong atmosphere.
