Head coach Clint Arave has a clear plan for the upcoming weeks as the Blackfoot High School boys basketball team moves further into the season. Arave states during practice, the team will mostly be working on improving their individual skills, particularly shooting and player development. “We’re really focusing on skill development, shooting, and skill work right now,” Arave said.
Blackfoot defense is still one of its biggest strengths. The team has shown their ability to adapt to different opponents and play styles, making them challenging to play. “Our guys play well on defense,” Arave said “We can defend all kinds of teams, regardless of their offensive or defensive skill.”
The goals for this year have been influenced by the lessons learned from last year. According to Arave, defining the team’s identity has been important. “We learned who we are, what our strengths are, and where our weaknesses are,” he said. “That knowledge helps with our planning and improvement.”
The team also improved as far as chemistry and communication. Arave admits that the team’s chemistry is “never perfect,” but he thinks the more time spent together as a team will help with their chemistry. “We’re in our second year together, and that time really helps with chemistry and communication, both on and off the court,” he said.
The boys basketball team is making progress toward a good season by putting a lot of focus on teamwork and defense.
