On October 28 we had an assembly on The Idaho Fentanyl Education Project. Officer Cody Horan and Detective Tim Hopkins showed a video by Dominic Tierno called “Dead on Arrival” to educate Blackfoot Highschool students on the danger of drugs but especially Fentanyl and the amount of people who have gotten killed by fake pills and vapes.
In a study by USA facts for Americans aged 18 to 45, fentanyl overdose is the leading cause of death. As of March 2025, a provisional estimate shows 77,648 total overdose deaths occurred in the U.S. Counterfeit pills laced with illicitly manufactured fentanyl are a major driver of overdose deaths, with lethal doses often indistinguishable from legitimate medication.
According to PBS News young people who obtain pills through social media are particularly at risk. After the video student council had 4 students from every grade participate in a fun red ribbon activity which was minute-to-win-it games while wearing beer goggles.
