I interviewed JennaVecia Stagner, a senior at BHS and asked her about her future plans after high school. As well as what she is doing now to get there.
- What are your interests?
- What are you hoping for in the future?
- How do you want to make a change?
- What do you do now for your community?
A1) She plans to go to Lewis Clark State College and help people and their families overcome the sadness of a family member or loved one suffering from dementia as well as other matters. Jenna said,”My great-grandmother, she currently has it, and I can probably give advice to other families. Especially out on the reservation who are suffering with this.”
A2) She hopes that there will be less AI and that, “I want people to know there is a life outside their phones and like don’t be embarrassed.” Jenna stated, “Don’t be afraid to live! You literally only live once.”
A3) JennaVecia wants to make a change by being involved in her reservation, stating that once in a class they gave a lecture stating, “You can always go to these big cities. You can go to different countries, and when you come back home, it will be the same.” JennaVeica then stated, “That kind of hurts my heart because there are some people out there who will be abusive because of all these health problems.”
Jenna recounts a time where she saw a 5-7 year old girl caring for her mother, who was using a walker with groceries. “It really hurt my heart because, like, she’ll probably grow more mature. No child should have to live through that.” Jenna hopes that one day she can get enough money to help her reservation.
A4) JennVecia helps her community by being involved and showing up to events as the Vice President of the Indigenous Club. She hopes that little kids will also be inspired, as she was when she was little by getting to be a part of dancing in their culture. JennaVecia hopes that the younger kids will want to be involved in their culture and embrace it.
