At Blackfoot High School, our teachers are very involved in the school. Whether that’s between sports, or other clubs that they run. Two teachers in particular, Mr. and Mrs. Arave, are involved in many ways. They are both coaches, and they run a club. At the Broncwriter, we wanted to know what it is like for them
The pair were little when they met, and they eventually went to prom together in high school, here at Blackfoot. After high school, Clint Arave went on a LDS mission and when he came back they started to date. Soon after this they got married.
Mrs. Chelsey Arave stated that teaching together came as a surprise. She knew she had wanted to go into education, and Clint Arave had originally gone into business. He had business education and when the job opened up, he applied for it and obtained the position.
In separate interviews, they had contrasting, yet similar answers. Chelsey Arave said that it’s really busy, and they don’t see each other all too often during sports, or during the day.
“It’s fun to work together because we go to lunch, but we don’t see each other much during the day. Sports makes it even harder, because I’m gone during volleyball and he’s taking care of our little kids. Then when it’s basketball season I’m the one that’s taking care of our little kids and running them around.”
Mrs. Arave also stated that Mr. Arave is definitely the more competitive one when questioned. “If we play a boardgame or anything he’ll cheat or do anything to win, so for sure he is.”
The club they run is called “BBN”, otherwise known as Bronco Broadcasting. They oversee all of the digital scoreboards, and they started it because when ICCU donated the boards they required a stipulation that students run the board. It had originally been a class, and there was a lot to do outside of the class, so they made it a club.
When asking Clint Arave what it’s like to work together, he stated, “It’s definitely interesting, we both have lots of similar ideas and opinions on a lot of things, so sometimes we see eye-to-eye, sometimes we don’t, but it’s fun to have her.”
Then, when asked who was more competitive he stated that Mrs. Arave was actually the more competitive one. “She’s way more competitive than I am”.
