When Elena Hutchinson touched a flute for the first time, in the third grade, she knew music would be her passion. When Hutchinson was in high school, there were two marching bands, a football marching band in which she played flute, tenor sax and even held the title “Drum Major.”
She was also part of the Competition band where she played in the pit, a tenor sax, baritone and the sousaphone. During her senior year, she was offered a Music Education flute scholarship for Utah State University.
When she got married, she started working in preschools, which she found helpful while she was raising her two kids. After her husband Ben Hutchinson finished law school. She went back to school for early education and worked in elementary schools.
After her kids got a bit older, she realized she was missing her first passion, band. After Mrs. Empey left, she took the job without hesitation. Mrs. Hutchinson realized that while she loved working in the elementary schools, she wanted to have fun again and became co-director of the marching band.
