Last week marked the third consecutive year that HOSA leadership has organized a community-wide drive for Be The Match, the nation’s largest marrow and stem cell registry. The initiative aims to connect patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers with genetically matched donors. HOSA leaders are working hard to spread the word that donating stem cells doesn’t cost the donor a dime.
Through the Be The Match program, all expenses related to the donation process are covered. This includes:
Medical Costs: All exams, lab tests, and the procedure itself.
Travel Expenses: If a donor needs to travel to a collection center, flights and hotels are paid for.
Lost Wages: The program provides reimbursement for time taken off work to ensure that “doing the right thing” doesn’t result in a financial hit.
