Mrs.Brittany Wood was born in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. She attended much larger schools than BHS.
One thing that she enjoys so much about Blackfoot highschool is the connections that students and teachers make here. Whereas the large schools she grew up in it was harder to make those connections because the classes were so large.
After high school Wood went to Utah Valley University getting an associates in business communications. This wasn’t her dream though she wanted to study the wolves in Yellowstone. So she got her bachelors in wildlife biology from Utah State University.
After college Wood moved to Burley, Idaho for her husband’s career as a hoof trimmer for dairy cows. They have 1 son who was born and raised in Idaho until he turned 13. Then, following a dream to own their own farm, Mrs. Wood and her family got that opportunity in 2016 and moved to Northern New York where they ran an organic grass-fed dairy farm.
Now Wood is currently working here at BHS, but how did she get here? After selling their dairy farm her husband got a job opportunity in Blackfoot, Idaho. She was so relieved because she was excited to get back to the west.
Blackfoot is her and her husband’s favorite community. Her son spent his senior year at Blackfoot and graduated here. He had a really good experience at our school and loved some of our teachers here.
Though she hadn’t thought about becoming a teacher originally she has no regrets because she loves the environment of the highschool. She teaches the 10th grade Ecology and Cells. She says her favorite unit to teach in class is cell division and DNA replication.
When Wood isn’t in school; she loves to travel. Her favorite place she’s ever traveled was London england. Where she enjoyed visiting the Tower Bridge, Big Ben, parliament, and Westminster Cathedral. She has also been to Denmark, Sweden, Puerto Rico and Alaska within the last couple of years.
Her family goal this year is to travel and camp in Idaho and surrounding states to appreciate the natural beauty and parks we have here in the west.
Mrs. Wood breeds golden retrievers, a great side job for a biology teacher. All of Mrs.Wood’s golden retrievers are AKC (American Kennel Club) registered and OFA hip certified. Each of her golden retrievers have strong purebreed pedigrees. She takes a lot of things into consideration when she decides to breed her dogs. She has bred her dogs with sires from all over America. Many of her puppies have gone on to be emotional support and service dogs. .
Wood loves the connection she has with the families that buy her puppies. She often receives pictures and updates and even statements like “Thank you so much for our puppy, we couldn’t live without him/her!” Wood says it is super fulfilling.
