The 2023-2024 HOSA chapter of Blackfoot High School coordinated with the East Idaho LifeFlight during international HOSA week on their career day. They had a guest speaker and were able to ask to on-duty workers questions.

Ella Shutes, Staff Reporter
Elizabeth Shutes, known as Ella, is a senior here at Blackfoot High. Friends describe her as really smart, kind and confident. The 17 year old is a self-proclaimed extroverted introvert and is open with those she knows well. She grew up in Texas and has four siblings. Here in Blackfoot, she lives with her one year old twin siblings and her dog, Popeye. She also has seven cats that she takes care of; their names are Annie, Maggie, Bleach, Bailey, Eddie, Scary, and Fluffy. Ella decided to join the school’s newspaper for her final year of high school after hearing many positive things about the newspaper from friends.
Ella loves to travel. She has been to many places and plans to go even farther. Some of her favorite places to travel include New York, Alaska, Canada, and Texas. One of her favorite parts of Texas is near the Gulf of Mexico because of the turtle hatchlings that can be observed from the city of Corpus Christ. Next year, Ella will be going to Spain to visit her friend who was a foreign exchange student in her family a couple years ago. Sometime in the future, Ella would like to travel to the Balkan country Greece. She loves the beautiful water, the stunning cities, and all that is there in Greece. It is her dream place to travel to.
Ella also loves music, whether it’s singing or listening to it . She participated in madrigals her sophomore year here. Musicals are her favorite type of music. Some musicals she enjoys include Rent, In the Heights, Mamma Mia and Wicked. Other things that Ella enjoys are crime shows, like NCIS, and listening to podcasts.
Ella is a very busy person at school with her many clubs and activities. She loves to dance and has been dancing since she was 7. She has been on the dance team for 3 years now. This year, she is the military dance captain for the Fillies. Additionally to dance, Ella is the newly appointed president for the HOSA club. She is also a CNA student through ISU and now the Blackfoot High newspaper!
Plans after graduation in 2024 are plentiful. Ella is planning on going to BYU Provo to get her undergraduate degree in nursing so she’ll have her registered nurse license. She would stay there to get her bachelor's degree so she can become a family nurse practitioner. Plus, of course, traveling as much as she possibly can in between.
