At the recent State Drama Competition, Blackfoot High School had an impressive 28 team members participate in 13 categories ranging from pantomime to costume design. To no surprise, this occurred after winning Districts for the second time in a row under adviser Sharon Hoge.

Nic Hammond (11) performed in humorous ensemble and recognized, “We had a lot of talented performers that gave it their all.” Mia Toussaint, Sydney Saline, Fernando Martinez, Porter Williams, and Jean Blackman contributed to Blackfoot’s total team score of 7 after having competed in finals and/or semifinals. “[The team] did really well especially considering how many people made it to State this year,” says Porter Williams (11), who competed in solo musical theater as well as ensemble musical theater.

Even more noticeable than the team’s success at competitions is the noticeable “family” mentality that prominently supports each individual member. Mia Toussaint (12) reflected that after 2 years of performing, drama has taught her “how to excel at things [she’s] never tried before and helped [her] see the people here at school differently by learning to appreciate each other as individuals.”

In spite of their recent victories, the team’s optimism runs even higher for next year. There are hopes to win Districts for another year in a row and break the top 3 ranking in the state.
