NFL Player’s Protests

NFL+Players+Protests

Brynlee Case, Staff Reporter

Various NFL players have been expressing their First Amendment right by kneeling during the National Anthem for a year now. President Trump made a statement about the protests, stating that players who are not standing during the Anthem should be fired or suspended, or the viewers should boycott NFL games until the players stand.

This statement has united the players more than ever. Since then, during the National Anthem the players united as teams to all stand, kneel, or enter the field after the Anthem has been played.

I don’t think the President has the right to restrict the players from expressing their First Amendment rights, but I also don’t think that the way the players are protesting is an effective way to obtain awareness. The protesting started as a way to improve awareness of all who are oppressed, but most people thought it was showing disrespect to this country and to all of those who have served to protect it. There are other, better ways to raise awareness that all people can understand.
