Blackfoot softball team spreads Christmas cheer at Stoddard Elementary
December 19, 2018
On December 19, the girls softball team delivered a Christmas surprise to one student at Stoddard Elementary. This student, not named for privacy, loves softball and the team thought of a way to make her dreams come true.
“I was super excited and it made me feel really happy because making other people feel happy makes you happy,” Tylar Dalley (10) said.
“My mom was her teacher last year, she had her in her class. She told her my dad that this girl really liked softball,” Kymberly Wieland (10) said. “I got to star tutor her last year.”
Greg Wieland, one of the softball coaches, was told of a girl who loved softball from one of the teachers at the elementary school. He and the team thought it would be nice if they made a little Christmas magic happen.
The student received a full softball package. The gift included: a softball mitt, a softball, bat, backpack, clothing, water bottle and wiffle balls. Each girl took a turn to give her a part of the present. When they presented the gift, they explained why they liked that part of softball.
“It was really emotional. It was really fun to see her reaction. It was really emotional because she really didn’t have a Christmas and we just gave it to her,” Dalley said.
“There is happiness it brings to people, especially around this time of year where it’s just so contagious. I think that if people don’t want to continue to do this then they’re crazy just because it brings so much joy to everybody’s life,” Wieland said.
The team also handed out candy and bracelets to the rest of the class in appreciation for letting them come.
