The Huskies won the 2025 NCAA Women’s Championship, with a final score of 82-59 over the South Carolina Gamecocks on April 6 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. This was UConn’s 12th national championship.
Azzi Fudd scored 24 points leading the Huskies to victory she was also named Most Outstanding Player. The forward Sarah Strong also played a big role, scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Paige Bueckers contributed 17 points and 6 rebounds
Then on defense, UConn held off South Carolina’s offense while also having a 20-point lead at the end of the third quarter. The championship game had over 8.5 million people watching, this was the third-most-watched women’s national championship game ever.
According to ESPN This championship allowed Paige Bueckers is to head to the W.N.B.A., where she could be first pick in next month’s draft by the Dallas Wings on April 14. This has given UConn back their championship legacy and may set them up for future success.
