Meet this year’s Blackfoot Danish foreign exchange Student, Karoline Levin. From 4,848 miles away, she’s come to our school for a year to get a feel for the American high school life. Here at our school, she is a part of the 2025 graduating class, the current junior year. Adjusting to life in America has gone gradually, especially with so many cultural differences, but that is undoubtedly a part of the fun that comes with exchange years.
Originally from the Northeast island of Fyn, located in the middle of Denmark, she has grown up by the sea her whole life. Her hometown is smaller in size, where all the houses are connected and full of a wide range of colors. Being from a community by the water, naturally, she’s spent a lot of time by the water, participating in unique sports such as water skiing competitively. “I only do waterski, but the past 6 years I have done gymnastics.” Karoline loves getting to waterski, and in the future, she hopes to improve. It is not as popular of a sport in Denmark as it is here in the United States, but that doesn’t hinder her passion for her sport.
As a new student at Blackfoot, that leaves a lot of opportunities for new students to take a variety of fun and unique classes. Back in Denmark, the schools don’t offer electives, and classes mainly consist of essentials; math, chemistry, Danish, English, physics, economics, and a few other subjects within that field. Karoline says that she looks forward to our school’s Interior Design, Floral Design, and Fashion Strategies class. Further in the future, she looks forward to our school dances and sports games, a classic feature of American high school.
On a regular day in Fyn for Karoline, she spends it going to school on weekdays, studying, and hanging out with friends. She enjoys spending time in local cafes, or on busier days, heading into the bigger city to go shopping. During school, Karoline goes to class and is her school’s student body president. It is one of her greatest accomplishments, and something that she is most proud of!
There was really not any specific reason as to why Karoline decided to take on the challenge of an exchange year. As she has said, it was always a distant dream and once she was given the opportunity to go, she took it! She has never been to the United States before, let alone American, so it was a great opportunity to get to come here and see the culture first-hand. So far, Karoline has enjoyed the Homecoming dance and football games more than anything, as well as American food like pizza and burgers.
This junior still has a long journey ahead of her, and she’s just getting started and settled. If you see her in the halls, give her a warm welcome. Velkommen til Blackfoot Karoline Levin, vi håber du får det bedste år her!
