Elon Musk Offers to Sell Tesla Stock

Let’s Talk about Tesla, shall we? The famous electric car company is partially owned by Elon Musk, right? Well, that is true for now, at least. In a Twitter Stream on October 31, 2021, Musk said that he would “…sell Tesla stock right now…”

Now, 6 Billion is a lot of money, but that’s not exactly how much the World Food Programme (WFP)  would be getting if they were to show the world where it would go.

Tesla stock, as of October 25, 2021, was worth over a trillion dollars according to Fox News. Elon Musk owns about $250 billion dollars worth of Tesla Stock. That means that if the WFP can prove that $6,000,000,000 can solve world hunger, then they’d receive $250,000,000,000 to figure out what to deal with. All you math people already know, that would mean that the World Food Programme would receive 41 times more money then they were asking for. Would you reveal what you were going to do with money? Especially as an organization that is devoted to ending world hunger?

Personally, I, along with any sane person, would. However, for some reason, David Beasly, the executive director of the United Nations’ World Food Programme refused to share that information. His response was, rather than anything relevant, essentially that the article title was a misquote, and that he and Musk should meet in person to discuss his donation. (I apologize for not having a direct quote for this, but Beasly’s tweets have mysteriously disappeared). Although the article title (Showcased in the above tweet)  is, in fact, a misquote, that doesn’t address the fact that he didn’t really have a real response.

Personally, I find any international organization a little suspicious, but Dr. Eli David does have a good point. Where did that $8.4 billion go? Looking through the 2020 report located at https://www.wfp.org/publications/use-flexible-and-immediate-response-account-funding-2020, the only information I could find on how funds were actually used was an ambiguous map about areas in which there was an increase in funding surrounded by pictures and paragraphs trying to get a rise out of the reader. Although it is an effective tactic to get funding, it doesn’t tell us anything about how money is being used. Does anyone want to explain that to me?

The suspicious activities of the WFP aside, Musk still might part with some of his stock in Tesla anyway. In a Twitter Poll on November 6th, he asked if he should part with 10% of his Tesla stock, which would be about $25 Billion.

Although this is not necessarily to give to the WFP, that is still a lot of money to give up. Elon Musk is giving up 2% of Tesla, but he asked the public first? Oh well, I guess that the phrase “eccentric billionaire” exists for a reason.
