Blackfoot is off to a 1-2 record after Tuesday’s 69-47 loss to Burley. Blackfoot’s win came in their home opener to Century 65-61.
Blackfoot is hoping to improve on last year’s 12-15 record but is currently trending in the wrong direction after this loss.
Blackfoot’s current roster has no seniors after transferring, mainly to Snake River in the 3A division and has 5 sophomores on the varsity team.
“We reflect on the past and on things we could have done better and goals we achieved…We use losing as a learning experience and inspiration to always get better,” said Coach Clint Arave, “Being involved with the kids, and their dedication inspires me to coach.”
Also interviewed was Sophomore Center, Mark Richie, who had this to say.
“I personally think the greatest part about the team, and even the sport is that you’re always getting better, whether you win or lose. And that inspires me to show up to practice even when we’re not the best is because of that.
“I see losing as a sign of needing to improve and even the whole team, like [Coach] Arave, uses it as a learning experience that even though we lost, we can still get better.
“I personally think the seniors leaving was great, especially for Sophomores like me who get a chance to play which wouldn’t have happened without them leaving. I think we can still win without them and get a chance to be even better in our own senior years because of this experience.”
Blackfoot’s season looks to be a rollercoaster ride with no one knowing how it will go.
