The Blackfoot baseball season is now over, and today we’re here to answer how well the team did, and what they want to do better next season. There are three different baseball teams, Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshmen, but we’ll only go over the varsity team today.
First, the varsity team had a win-loss ratio of 19 wins to 10 losses. Even though the team had some of the best hitters the school has ever had (according to coach Zachary Reay), the team sadly didn’t qualify for competing at state. While the team was strong at offense, Reay claimed that the team needed to work on its pitching.
As to what will happen next season, Coach Reay said that they will need to work on their pitching next season, while also working on training the other players as to take the place of the several seniors they will lose this year (Easton Cannon, Jace Cooper, Maddex Hone, Weston Layton, Cody Smith, and Peyton Taylor).
On the positive side, only seven players will graduate from the team, still leaving eight players left on the varsity team, meaning that the BHS baseball team will come back as strong or stronger than last year, while implementing new strategies and improving on their old weaknesses.
