Boxing has been a tradition for the past 34 years at Blackfoot High School with many pairs of students challenging each other at the ring for a minute.
Mr. Wilding, a Social Studies teacher, and Mr. Smith, a Social Studies teacher, hosts the boxing tournaments as a fundraiser for the Wrestling team here at Blackfoot High School. While it varies heavily each year, the estimated money earned from it is a whopping $1,000 as they host it inside the New Gym. Every year, the New Gym is packed with people waiting to see the students box each other.
This year, there are about 44 students willing to participate in boxing with a couple needing to fill out the paperwork. To ensure the safety of the students, they are tasked to wear boxing gloves along with headgear to prevent damage to the head. Along with that, participants must attend three clinical trials on May 15th, May 19th, and May 20th.
The Boxing Tournament will occur on Friday, May 22, 2025 at 6:00 PM.
