I bring you today’s teacher feature… featuring… Our librarian! Ms. Nelson does a lot for our school, but I feel like people who aren’t regularly in the library don’t know a ton about her.
My goal is to change that, not only to help recognize her, but to help students get to know our staff.
Ms. Nelson has worked here at BHS for 5 years, and she’s worked a total of 11 years in this district.
Her favorite part about being the librarian is “Seeing ALL the students, rather than just one class of them, or just certain students each day. I get to see a wide variety of students. I get to know everyone.”
The reason Ms. Nelson wanted to be a librarian at BHS was because she first started out as an elementary school librarian and she “Absolutely loved it!” But she switched to the high school for insurance purposes. But since she’s moved to this school, she’s fallen in love with getting to know the students here.
Her favorite book is “Either the Selection series, or the Matched trilogy.”
Originally, she never planned on being a librarian. She wanted to be a vet. But she decided she was “too soft” for it, as she “couldn’t stand seeing pets hurt.”
She’s also native to Idaho, having been born in Pocatello. After having grown up in Rupert, she moved to Blackfoot because this is where her husband is from.
To add a little drama, I asked, “Who is your favorite teacher at BHS?” And with a dramatic gasp she let us know that her favorite teachers at BHS are actually the ladies in the front office! Julie Hasselbring and LaNae Williams.
Finally, to ease my own suspicion, I wanted to know if she really needed glasses or if she just wore them for the librarian aesthetic. To which she admitted she is completely blind without them. “I wouldn’t even be able to tell you who was in front of me without my glasses on!”
