From April 1–5, the Blackfoot High School FFA team traveled to Twin Falls for state. At the state level, FFA takes part in career development (CDE) and leadership development events (LDE) competitions.
Few kids placed in anything, but those we spoke with said they all enjoyed themselves and thought the event went well, even though they all agreed that their performance might have been better.
Harlie Olson(10) said she had a terrific day and that the flower team did a decent job, but she wished they had done a much better one.
The animal judging was also good, according to Hayden Groesbeck(10), one of our livestock judges, who evaluated items from pigs, sheep, goats, and cows. They didn’t perform as well, but their options weren’t as good as they had been in prior years and that hopefully next year they will have better options.
Among their numerous accomplishments this year was the rise in interest in the FFA community and the agriculture sector. In addition to caring for their own education, they want the students to be the teachers the following year and take responsibility not just for themselves but for others as well. Their intention is to prepare boys and girls for the real world and the future.“We’re learning how to work together so that we can be beneficial for our organization but as well as for each other, cause this world is hard and we need some people,” – Coffey, Tanisha. They want to help investigate the possibilities of FFA and how it might be used in our everyday life.
In order to provide possibilities for our generation, the advisers hope to enhance the curriculum, learn more about the students’ interests, and better their relationships with the students.
