On April 11th, Blackfoot Community Players hosted “Lamb of God.” A concert style performance featuring a live choir, orchestra, and spoken dialogue. It starred Blackfoot locals such as Jake and Kiah Spjute. With a price tag of free, nearly all 1600 seats in the Performing Arts Center were filled.
“Lamb of God” is the famous story of Jesus’s death and resurrection told through music. The production features Jesus as a solo cellist, 4 of the 12 apostles as vocalists, with Peter as the lead. Jake Spjute (who played the role of Peter) performed the song “I Cannot Watch” while his wife Kiaha Spjute (who played Martha) performed the song “Make Me Whole.”
“I joke this is how people get hooked on opera,” Kiah mentioned. “Once you’ve sung with a full voice with a full orchestra at the top of your lungs it’s hard to go back.”
When asked how she prepared for her role Martha, she stated “I always read the scripture account (usually several times) so that I feel the character really personally.”
Lamb of God had 4 performances. March 29th at Pocatello, March 31st at Idaho Falls, April 11th at Blackfoot Idaho, and April 21st at Rexburg. Though it is over for 2025, they plan on returning around the same time in 2026.
