Laos is an overlooked country in Asia, existing south of China and west of Vietnam. Laos is an underrated country with a rich history, beautiful architecture, and a fantastic culture.
Laos originated when a group of people in China left the country in the 14th century to create the new country, Laos. It was originally called the Kingdom of Lan Xang, which means “million elephants.”
Laos started as an independent Kingdom until they were taken over by France in 1893. Then they were taken over by Japan in 1945, until the people in the country finally had a revolution and became an independent country again in 1975.
Laos has never had it easy, first being a country that was created only for their people, as well as being the most bombed country in the world because of the Vietnam War. What makes Laos so inspiring is the fact that their people have always fought for their land and have never given up.
Next, there’s the beautiful landscapes and breathtaking architecture in Laos. The country is full of mountains, plateaus and wetlands, while also having mesmerizing waterfalls and rivers.
The architecture is also interesting because several cities are built on wetlands, combining land and water to make one-of-a-kind sights to behold, usually inspired by French architecture. Along with newer architecture, a lot of the older architecture is still standing, most of which with a Buddhist connection.
Lastly, Laos has a very interesting culture. Although most of their history is about fighting for their own land, Laos is a very welcoming country to all visitors. Also, while much of Laos is connected to the Buddhist religion, they still have ancient traditions and their culture is also affected by their French colonial influences.
In conclusion, Laos is an inspiring and underrated country that showcases the beauty of South Asia, has an interesting mixed culture, and has a strong people who are always willing to fight for their country.
