Recently, a game known as R.E.P.O. has been pretty popular in terms of people not only playing the game for themselves but watching videos about it. After playing the game and experiencing what it has to offer, I think the game is very entertaining.
For those who don’t know, R.E.P.O. is a co-op horror game where up to 6 players are sent to locations by the Taxman to collect loot. Be cautious however as many enemies roam around the map alone or in groups with most having their unique abilities.
Compared to Lethal Company, loot will not be placed inside your inventory and will instead need to be carried in the player’s hands while attempting to not damage it by hitting it against anything. This, at least from me playing alone and with strangers is easier said than done as the game keeps you on your toes.Held loot can either be placed inside the cart given to you at the beginning of the game or the platform to build to the quota.
Once the quota is met, loot will be extracted along with any player heads on the platform. Player heads appear once a player dies and if taken to the platform and extracted along with the loot, said player, or players, will be revived. Once that is completed, players will either need to go back to the van that they came from or continue completing quotas to complete the level before being allowed to leave.
While in game, R.E.P.O. uses your microphone to speak with others with voice chat being proximity chat based which makes people louder or quieter depending on how far they are from you. Even players who have died, also known as The Broken Ones, have their own voice chat where they can spectate any players who are still alive. In my experiences, the voice chat is often full of far away screaming while your teammates are being chased by the monsters which already makes me love the game.
Should all the players die and fail the level, players will be revived and taken to the Disposal Arena where players will need to fight each other until one is left standing. Winning in the Disposal Arena will reward the player with a temporary crown that they will wear on their head until the team fails another level and are taken to the Disposal Arena.
Pros: To start with pros about the game, R.E.P.O.’s physics mechanics are really fun to mess around with as items that can be picked up can be thrown around with some having strange effects on the player.
Another thing I love is that R.E.P.O. has proximity chat that not only changes based on the distance, but also affects how the models look as the player model’s mouth will move when the player speaks. Lastly, the game is pretty cheap as it costs only 10 USD in contrast to most AAA games which ended up costing around 60 to 70 USD.
Cons: Unfortunately, a matchmaking feature isn’t in the game which does make it pretty difficult if you do not have anyone to play with. This can be solved with meeting strangers online and playing with them that way but it is unfortunate that there’s no button to do it in game. Another thing, the game uses the host’s internet connection with it dictating the performance of all the players. Usually, this means that if the host has a bad internet connection, the game will be laggy, buggy, and at times kick players out of the game which is pretty frustrating.
Overall, I give R.E.P.O. a solid 8 out of 10 as it has a lot to offer, especially since it’s only in early access currently. I personally cannot wait until they add more features to the game like locations, items, enemies, and so on. This has been Luisrey Moreno Zamora from the BroncWriter, signing out.
