Dawandey Dilus, Senior at Blackfoot High School, has been wrestling for all four of his high school years. Through the season, Dawandey pinned and won many matches, securing his spot as an undefeated wrestler in his weight class for his senior year.
Going into the state championship match, Dawandey did not have high hopes. In his words, “I thought I was gonna get cooked.” Although we all know how big and strong Dawandey really is, he described his opponent as a “rock,” looking “bigger and stronger.” Though he believed these things, he still won and became the State Champ, pushing past his initial thoughts and wrestling to win. Dawandey was victorious by pin, and using techniques such as the single and double leg movements
Dawandey has been pursuing the State Champ title for all four years of high school, working hard on and off the mat, building his muscle and skills to improve. He also participates in other sports such as football and track.
Through all of this, Dawandey states that he actually doesn’t know how strong he really is, but being state champ certainly proves his mental and physical strength.
