The successor to the Nintendo Switch, the NINTENDO SWITCH 2, has been revealed, and although we don’t know when the console will be released, we do know that a Nintendo Direct will be released on April 2, 2025.
A Nintendo Direct is a video that goes over the many games either coming to the console, new or old, or showing what updates are coming to which games. Since we know very little about the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s easy to assume that some large and exciting games will be revealed, and this article will explain which first party games I think could be shown / revealed at the direct.
New Mario Kart (Mario Kart X)
The most likely game to be revealed was the game that was shown during the Switch 2 first look, being the next Mario Kart game. From what we’ve seen, it appears that this game will introduce new tracks, new karts, 24 characters in each race, and possibly a campaign mode.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
The second game that I think is guaranteed to be shown in the presentation is the newest Metroid game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Although this game was originally announced to come to the Switch 1, it’s one of the only games we know about that hasn’t been released, in which it would make sense if it was at least mentioned in the direct.
New 3D Mario
It’s been basically confirmed already that a new 3D Mario is going to be one of the first games on the Switch 2. Not only has it been leaked by people working with Nintendo, but it’s likely that there will be a new game presented since we haven’t gotten a 3D Mario since 2017, and that game sold almost 30 million units.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A
This territory are games that I’m not 100% sure will be in the direct, but I think is slightly likely. The newest Pokemon game, Legends: Z-A, is another game announced to come to switch, but hasn’t been released yet. It might not be shown however, because it was already shown in the Pokemon direct in February.
The Legend of Zelda Port / Remake
Although some other Zelda games have been released recently (Tears of the Kingdom, 2023 / Echoes of Wisdom, 2024), I think it’s entirely possible that Nintendo tries to generate excitement by revealing a new Zelda game. They could either port the Zelda games on the Wii U, or remade an entire game to show off the power of the system, in which I’m hoping for the latter.
Fire Emblem
While this might just be maximum hoping, I think a new Fire Emblem game would be perfect for a 2025 release. Although Fire Emblem is an inconsistent game series, with the 2019 game (Three Houses) being the most popular FE game ever, and then following it up with a lowly rated and less popular game in 2023 (Engage), I think a new Fire Emblem game would be perfect to come out this year or next year.
Super Smash Bros.
It’s been seven years since the last Super Smash Bros. game, and while the previous game is still popular, it would make sense if they revealed a new Smash game during the direct, especially because the creator of the franchise, Masahiro Sakurai, left a comment about the new direct that suggests he might have something to present. However, it is possible that they just port the old game for Switch 2, but have it include the DLC.
Animal Crossing
The last Animal Crossing game took the world by storm during the COVID pandemic in 2020, and I think that after the surge in popularity for the series, Nintendo would want to capitalize on its success by working on a new game. And since the game has pretty much died out now, I think a new game could very well bring back the old fans that bought the game in 2020.
That’s all of my predictions/hopes, we’ll see what happens in April.
