Blackfoot High’s own Mrs. Wilmot was born in the United States. She grew up in Snake River until 8th grade then moved to Shelly, and met her husband Zane. Finally, moving one last time to Firth where she still lives today.
Mrs. Wilmot never really saw herself becoming a teacher “No I hated high school, I wanted to burn it down.” for a teacher never wanting to come back what changed her mind, what influenced Mrs. Wilmot to actually want to be a teacher?
Mrs Wilmot said her mothering instincts were one of the things that came to be after looking into multiple careers. Being a teacher was the only thing she really wanted to do in her family, being a teacher runs in the line. But for herself, she said her own high school teacher influenced her in wanting to be a teacher.
But a main wake up call was that Mrs. Wilmot talked about when she knew she should have been a teacher was the feeling of a kid not having someone to care for them like a dad, a mother or a teacher.
Wilmot just wanted to make kids feel like she cared, to affect them in a positive way and to teach them something. when she comes to this realization? When an incident happened with a teen boy, she thought deeply about how that boy felt about being alone.
So just being a teacher helps Mrs. Wilmot’s mental health, the fulfillment of feeling wanted as a teacher.
Besides being an English teacher, what does Mrs. Wilmot do outside of school?
Nothing, but she enjoys lots of stuff. Mrs. Wilmot enjoys finding and exploring new things like hiking, gardening, camping, and fishing just being outside. But as an English teacher? not reading, it just feels like a chore. Mrs. Wilmot is a teacher who really cares about her students, I was honored to be able to make a feature on her.
