Teaching with Mrs. Lewis
Q1: Why did you get into teaching?
“Why did I get into teaching? I have to say my mother was a family consumer science teacher, and I saw what she did and how it was used in our home and at the school, and that did influence me because I love the creative side that family-consumer science lets me use to teach my students instead of just writing papers and stuff like that.”
Q2: What’s your favorite part of what you teach?
“I do love teaching to sew, I think it’s a lot of fun. I also like that a lot of my projects are arts and crafts, and some kids don’t respond well to that but a lot of kids that do take my class really try hard and it’s fun to see what they can come up with when they design clothes or whether they’re doing a creative color wheel, it’s just fun to grade my student’s work.
Q3: To go along with my previous question, what is your favorite class to teach?
“It used to be fashion strategies, but I would have to say maybe teen-living because I get to teach a little of everything that I teach; so we do foods and nutrition, sewing, interior design, child development, and so it’s a little bit of everything I teach and so it’s fun to have breaks and do different things.
Q4: What’s the hardest part of your job?
“Having lots of preps. So I teach four classes everyday, and so I have to prep; and my projects take a lot of effort on my end. So I have to have the fabric, I have to have all the supplies for my students to use, and so its not like photocopying of a worksheet…it’s the prepwork on my end that’s hard.
Q5: How long have you been teaching for?
“This is my eighth year teaching at Blackfoot Highschool.”
And you haven’t taught anywhere before that?
“No, Blackfoot’s my first. And I really do like Blackfoot.
