In January 2025, The US supreme court passed a federal law that would approve the banning of the popular social media app, TikTok, due to concerns of national security and the app’s supposed security risks. The app would be shut down on January 18, 2025, with users of the app receiving a message that stated that TikTok would not be available because of laws passed by the US. The app was also removed from the appstore and could no longer be downloaded.
This ban would not last long however, as on January 19, 2025, President Donald Trump issued an order granting TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, an additional 75 days to comply with the US law and sell a part, or the entire property of Tik Tok to an American Company. This effectively reversed the ban in America, and as of now TikTok is still online. The app is available in the app store and is fully functional. Despite this, the ban is still slated to occur and we are waiting eagerly to see the fate of the app and the decision of the supreme court and ByteDance.
