Here at Blackfoot High School, many of the students here have a job outside of school for many reasons such as trying to help their family, save up money for college, and so on. Today, I decided to interview a couple of students at Blackfoot High School and ask the question, can and how do they balance their work/school life balance?
To help students who do have a job, Blackfoot High allows students to take classes that allow them to leave school and go to their jobs known as Business COOP Work Release. Juniors are allowed to have one class worth of it and seniors are allowed to have up to two classes, allowing them to get to their jobs much easier.
Now, onto the interviews. Clayton Olsen (12) is a student here that works at North Star Construction who finds joy in working. Olsen is more invested in his job currently which unfortunately leads to him to struggle a bit in finding a balance between school and work.
“The school should allow us to take 3 hours of work release any trimester we want if we have all of our credits,” Olsen commented when asked if Blackfoot makes their job easier and if they had any final thoughts.
Onto the second interviewee, Eugene Pubigee (12). Pubigee is a senior student who works at Arctic Circle, finding joy at where he works.
“I work 90 percent of my days but I try to get my work done in class unless I don’t then it becomes homework” Pubigee responded when asked on how he balances his job and school. He doesn’t really find any struggle along with deciding not to take any work release classes.
When asked for any final thoughts, Pubigee responded, “Have you tried peanut butter and pickles?”
