Many people are curious if Marvel Rivals can compete with Overwatch 2. The game has many problems, even though it seems fun to play as your favorite Marvel character. It has a terrible game engine, no role selection, and no placement matches in ranked, this could lead to an unfair and chaotic experience. Overwatch 2 is still the most polished and competitive hero game.
Marvel Rivals uses Unreal Engine 5 to run the game, which isn’t a very powerful engine for a hero shooter. Blizzard realized they couldn’t use a 3rd party engine so they created their own game engine that was specifically designed for quick, fast-paced gameplay.
Marvel Rivals also allows players to choose any hero, which could lead to unbalanced matches, whereas Overwatch 2 offers a game mode for role selection, guaranteeing balanced teams. Another problem with ranked is, unlike Overwatch 2, Marvel Rivals doesn’t use placement matches to determine skill level, instead when players unlock ranked they automatically get put in the lowest rank, which could lead to unfair matches.
Without role selection, placement matches and a good game engine the game feels choppy and unbalanced. Marvel Rivals has lots of potential to become better than Overwatch, Overwatch 2 is still the superior hero shooter game.
