Here at Blackfoot High School, students have more than a dozen choices of what clubs they can join with some even being a part of multiple clubs. Today though, we will be discussing and talking to the Philosophy Club President, Elias Ybarra (12) along with English teacher, Dr. Jason Dietz.
“It’s a club where we group together and try to answer questions that other fields of knowledge haven’t,” Ybarra said when describing what the Philosophy Club is and what they do. Diversity of ideas appear to be encouraged as it allows others to learn more about others’ opinions and beliefs that guide them.
“It’s not so much on how it works well but, how much we go against each other. We like to have an abundance of ideas so it’s really easy to have different opinions.”
From this explanation, having club members debating and disagreeing with each other allows others to learn the differing perspectives of their fellow members.
“If you enjoy thinking and discussing big ideas, the Philosophy Club is where you should be. Our club president brings a different philosophical question or idea to every club meeting and we have a blast bouncing ideas around and responding to one another’s thinking.“ Dietz said when asked about what he would say to those interested in joining the club.
Currently, the number of members in the club is reported to be about 15 people with the number varying every week since club days are every other Tuesday. If philosophy is something that interests you along with learning all sorts of things every week, then the Philosophy Club is for you. This has been Luisrey Moreno Zamora from the BroncWriter, signing off.
