It’s officially the big 2025, and with every new year comes a year full of new movies being released. Looking ahead, 2025 is full of many exciting new movie releases that appeal to all demographics of people. This is my list of my top ten most anticipated movies that will release this year; reminder that this is 100% my opinion.
10. How to Train Your Dragon 2025 (June 13)
How to Train Your Dragon (2025) is a live-action remake of the popular animated film released in 2010 of the same name.
However, I’m looking forward to this movie because it’s directed by Dean DeBlois, the same person who directed the original, which is one of my favorite movies. Deblois himself explained that the new movie isn’t going to be the exact same as the original, and that it will be a different interpretation of the How to Train Your Dragon book.
9. Jurassic World: Rebirth (July 2)
Jurassic World: Rebirth releases this summer, and it exists as both a sequel to Jurassic World: Dominion, but is also a soft-reboot for the franchise, meaning that none of the characters from the previous trilogy will be in it.
I’m looking forward to the newest Jurassic World movie because its script was written by Michael Crichton and David Koepp, who both wrote the script for the original Jurassic Park movie, which makes the new movie look like it’s going to be a return to form for the franchise.
8. Sinners (April 18)
Sinners is a new movie that’s directed by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther; Creed), and it’s supposedly a vampire-thriller starring Michael B. Jordan.
I’m looking forward to seeing Coogler and Jordan reunite, and I think that Coogler is a great candidate for making a vampire movie. The most exciting part of this is the fact that this movie is an original idea, while so many movies coming out this year are sequels or remakes.
7. The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25)
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is the third attempt at turning the iconic comic-book family into a live-action movie, and it’s the character’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What makes this exciting is that this is going to be a fresh take on the characters, with it taking place in an alternate universe, and having a ‘60s look to it. Also if you’re a comic-book fan, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is finally introducing Galactus, the World Eater to the big screen.
6. Karate Kid: Legends (May 30)
Karate Kid: Legends is the newest movie in the Karate Kid franchise, and it takes place after the events of Cobra Kai, as well as starring Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and Jackie Chan (Mr. Han).
What makes this movie exciting is the fact that the original karate kid gets to join forces with Jackie Chan’s character from The Karate Kid (2010). I’m also looking forward to seeing the newest karate kid, Ben Wang, who’s never been in a movie before.
5. Now You See Me 3 (November 14)
Now You See Me 3 is the third installment in the Now You See Me franchise, which are movies about people that perform bank heists with street magic tricks.
This reasoning isn’t complicated; I’m just looking forward to seeing this wildly inventive series return, with its incredible cast, and creative plots.
4. Michael (October 3)
Michael, releasing in October, is a blockbuster biopic about the king of pop, Michael Jackson.
I’m usually not a huge fan of biopics, but a movie about Michael Jackson is going to be an event, and I believed that this movie is going to be extremely hyped up.
3. Mickey 17 (March 7)
Mickey 17 is a new sci-fi movie by the legendary director, Bong Joon-Ho, and it stars Robert Pattinson as a man who is cloned every time he dies.
I’m especially interested in Mickey 17 because Bong Joon-Ho is one of my all time favorite directors, and I especially liked the book, which is creative, funny, and atmospheric.
2. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (May 23)
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is the eighth and supposed last film in the Mission Impossible series.
As someone who thinks Mission Impossible is one of the best movie franchises of all time, I’m extremely excited to see the stunts and plots that they will tackle in this hopefully bombastic film.
1. Superman (July 11)
Lastly, the movie I’m most excited about it’s release in 2025 is the new Superman movie, directed by James Gunn, which will be the first movie in the new DC Universe.
I’m looking forward to it because I don’t think we’ve had an accurate portrayal of the iconic character since the original 1978 film. It seems that James Gunn will be trying to make Superman hopeful and inspiring again, which is something that has been missing from the character for a long time.
