Braxton Williams (12) is the director of the upcoming production Alice in Wonderland. He is a senior and has participated in shows at Blackfoot High such as “Joseph” and “West Side Story.” This is his very first full play that he is directing and is excited to work with everyone participating.
As Williams enters his Senior year of high school, Mr. Jacob Spjute (the Drama teacher) has placed him in charge of directing this year’s straight play (non-musical). Typically students aren’t allowed to direct at Blackfoot High School, but Williams got special permission after displaying his passion and determination to make this show a reality.
When asked why he wanted to be a director, Willams claimed “I wanted to open people’s eyes to the magic of theater and put my vision on a stage.”
Willams continued by stating that he chose Alice because it was “…funky and weird and I love that.”
When asked what problems he had run into, he simply stated, “…mostly stress. I’m always doing something, currently Alice, Puffs (a play opening at the Nuart), and drama competition.”
Williams said he wants to continue directing in the future, “I want to do something theater out of high school and directing strikes me more than acting.”
Braxton Williams is the youngest official director in Idaho that’s being publicized. Alice in Wonderland runs November 21, 22 and 23 and is entirely student-produced.
