Blackfoot High School held an assembly celebrating our local veterans through multiple mediums. Our choir, band, and drama clubs came together to create a performance that reflects our appreciation for our veterans’ service to this beautiful nation. Mr. Cederberg gave us his remarks and a presentation to set us up for the music and our speaker, Dan Miller.
Dan Miller, the head of Operation Freedom Recovery podcast, gave us a speech about how sharing stories and finding “modalities” allows us to heal from our traumas. He told his personal story of how he overcame the stresses and emotional traumas that come with war through his ardent practice of meditation, including multiple 10-Day silent retreats. He expounded his thought that in the end our stories are all the same, and we can use the light that comes from that knowledge to build each other up.
It was a wonderful thing to see a school come together to observe Veteran’s’ Day together. The music, the flags and presentations allowed us to collectively develop an attitude of respect for those who have given their services to our proud country. Happy Veteran’s Day!
