On Monday, October 28, 2024, the Blackfoot High School’s Band held their first concert of the year. This marks the new band teacher, Elena Hutchinson, first concert at BHS.
Hosted at our local Blackfoot Performing Arts Center, it was a Halloween-themed event where they played some spooky songs. Also participating in the concert was the band from Mountain View Middle School, directed by Cameron Baker.
Some songs played during the show included “Abracadabra,” This Cruel Moon,” and “October.” Additionally, the percussionists performed a very incredible song named “Buckets” that was in fact played on buckets.
Junior Chadd McGee plays multiple instruments in our band. This includes the saxophone, euphonium, and French horn. He played all these instruments, and the trumpet, at the concert on Monday. On the new band director, McGee believes that she is “doing really great considering all she has had to learn in such a short amount of time.” McGee’s favorite song of the night to play was a collection of songs from the Harry Potter soundtrack because “French horn parts are really cool.”
The Harry Potter songs concluded the concert with the entire band performing it together. It was an incredibly spooky night filled with some amazing music from the students here at Blackfoot High.
