During the 2023-2024 school year, Blackfoot High School decided to upgrade some of its facilities. Over the 2024 summer, a new track was installed and was made ready to use for the upcoming school year. The bleachers were moved onto the opposite side and some new track and field equipment was added. There has been some controversy about who was allowed to access the track but Mr. Roger Thomas explained why only track runners were allowed to use that specific facility.
Before the new track was put in, a new baseball/softball facility was built, and the same rule stands for that, only the dedicated athletes of those sports are to use that building. The Cheerleading team was unhappy about the space they were given to perform their routines, but it was said they would get a larger and safer space in the upcoming year.
The main purpose for limiting access to the new track is to preserve the surface for years to come. A new track costs upwards of a million dollars and that type of money doesn’t come around easily. Blackfoot plans to limit the amount of wear and tear so that this track will last for 30 years.
